More than a choir
Ksenja Pirc
The Voice That Connects Voices
Every musical group has its own sound. But BeJazzy also has a person who knows how to bring many individual voices together into one story. That person is Ksenja Pirc — musician, pianist, teacher, singer, arranger, and above all, the artistic director who has shaped the musical character of BeJazzy from the very beginning.
Her musical journey is closely connected with vocal music. As an alto singer and accompanist in the ensemble Gaudeamus, later known as Perpetuum Jazzile, she discovered the power of a large vocal ensemble and the world of jazz created without traditional instruments. That experience became an important part of her later creative work.
In 2013, while preparing for a major concert at Ljubljana's Stožice Arena, she reunited with a group of former singing friends. Old memories came back to life, together with the desire to begin a new musical chapter.
In May 2014, the first rehearsals began.
At first, no one could know where this reunion would lead. But from a few voices, a group gradually emerged — with its own name, its own energy, and its own character. Ksenja took on its artistic leadership and began shaping BeJazzy as a place where the human voice could become melody, harmony, rhythm, and expression.
Her vision is simple, yet demanding: to turn individual voices into one shared instrument.
For Ksenja, it is not only about singing the right notes. What matters is feeling, rhythm, tone colour, listening to one another, and that special moment when the whole group begins to breathe as one. Under her direction, jazz groove, a cappella harmonies, vocal rhythms, and playfulness have become part of BeJazzy's distinctive sound.
Ksenja is also a teacher and piano educator, and for many years she has passed her knowledge on to new generations of musicians. Yet her work goes beyond teaching. It is about encouraging curiosity, attentive listening, and the courage to find one's own musical voice.
In BeJazzy, that philosophy continues through every singer.
The group brings together people of different generations, different musical experiences, and different personalities. Ksenja's role is to transform all of this into something shared — that moment when individual voices merge into one piece of music.
Perhaps that is why her most important role is the one that cannot be written into any biography.
Ksenja Pirc does not simply lead BeJazzy.
She helps BeJazzy listen to itself.
And whenever many voices come together on stage, her musical story is always part of that sound.
